Jenni loves being pregnant and having a bump.
“I really do. People keep using all these pregnancy-related words to describe me like glowing and blooming — I think they actually just mean sweaty but are far too polite to say! I’ve been really lucky because apart from feeling a little bit nauseous to begin with I’ve been absolutely fine. And I love having a bump now — I actually felt a bit frumpy when I didn’t have an obvious bump because I couldn’t get into certain clothes, but I didn’t look pregnant, if that makes sense. I’m really enjoying pregnancy, though — it’s great. Let’s not forget at the moment people are seeing me on TV after a make-up artist has been to work on me. That really helps, anyone would be glowing after that.”
Her friends think she’s a pregnancy expert.
“I was the first among my friends to become pregnant. Now there are a few of us, so I’m a bit ahead of them and they’re all asking me things as if I’m an expert. Really, I know nothing, apart from what other people have told me. Everyone who’s had a baby loves to tell you their birth story, don’t they? I’ll probably be the same.”
She was thrilled to be asked to present one of her favourite programmes.
“I’ve been a viewer of This Morning since Richard and Judy presented it, so how amazing was it to get the call being asked to do it? I didn’t even consider I might get it. There were so many other names being talked about in the papers that it never crossed my mind it could be me. I was asked to do a couple of weeks but I’ve ended up doing much more and it’s been great. It all happened quite quickly in the end — Holly went into labour and I got a phone call in bed at 7 am and my agent told me to get showered and ready as quickly as possible as I was presenting that morning. A couple of hours later I was on the show.”
She’s Phillip Schofield’s biggest fan.
“I’ve known Phillip for years and I call him Mr TV. I used to watch him when he was in the broom cupboard. Everyone just loves him, he’s completely unflappable and makes presenting look so easy. He’s absolutely impossible to panic on live TV. I’ve tried quite a few times to wind him up but it never works. He’s well respected and so . . . normal! He says he only works with pregnant women now — first Holly, now me.”
She loves early starts — and really is as cheery as she seems.
“I’m definitely much more of a morning person than a night-owl. James, my husband, says I’m so annoying first thing in the morning and always wants me to quieten down. I am generally cheery, too — what have I got to moan about?”
She’s glowing with health — but claims she looks ‘grey’ in the morning.
“Oh yes, sometimes I do and I definitely need a bit of a boost. On days I’m not working and getting my make-up done I use Bobbi Brown’s Pot Rouge just so I look alive.”
She gets a buzz from live TV.
“I love it. You’ve really got to be on the ball for it and as long as I’m prepared I can cope with it — although there’s always the possibility that things will go wrong. I get up at 5 am every day I’m doing This Morning to find out about who’s coming on that day’s programme and see what else we have coming up. It’s so great to work on a programme that I love, and it’s a privilege to keep Holly’s seat warm for her until she gets back. The variety is amazing and that’s one of the best things about it.”
She doesn’t always buy a Lottery ticket.
“Certainly not if I’m presenting the Lottery show. James buys a ticket every week, though. I can just imagine the headlines if he won while I was presenting.”
TV is her dream job — and hobby.
“I love TV! I’m always amazed when people say they don’t watch television — what do they talk about! There are loads of programmes I always record. I loved Case Histories recently — it was set in Edinburgh and the city looked stunning, although I do wish more Scots had been in it. I also love Glee, The Kennedys and The Sopranos. James always tapes lots of history programmes that I’d never watch on my own, but some of them are really interesting. We settled down to watch one recently and it turned out our friend was in it, dressed up as a Tudor. That was so weird.”
She still thinks of Scotland as home.
“There’s loads I miss about Scotland and when I go there it always feels like coming home. I miss family and friends, the way of life and the fact that you can be in a city like Glasgow and then only 15 minutes later you can be in glorious countryside with some of the best scenery in the world — that’s a luxury you simply don’t get in London. I just love hanging out at my mum and dad’s house. I completely chill out.”
Her parents are even more excited than her about her baby.
“My mum and dad and James’s mum can’t wait. All three of them already have grandchildren, but none of them live in Britain, so they’re looking forward to seeing lots of our baby. My mum and dad still live in Glasgow, but I have a feeling we’ll be getting lots of visits from them.”
