Doreen’s a very
special lady

By Paul Hastie

TWO WEEKS ago Doreen Roberts from Stoke-on-Trent had enjoyed a wonderful Sunday morning at the harvest festival at her local church.

After a fantastic lunch she arrived home to some bad news. Doreen’s front door had been kicked in and an intruder had been in her house.
Rings and other jewellery had been taken from the box in her bedroom. It wasn’t the value of the items that upset Doreen, who is 77, but they had great sentimental value.
She called her family and the police came to investigate. After a fraught afternoon, Doreen was able to settle down with a cup of tea and her Sunday Post.
Spirits raised
She turned to the Sick Children’s Appeal page and read about the MacDonald Brothers’ visit to Yorkhill Hospital. Doreen said, “When I arrived home my happiness bubble popped, but my spirits were raised when I read about the MacDonald Brothers.
“I’ve loved them since they were on The X Factor. They remind me of a Scots friend who used to live next-door.
They made an appearance at a local disco, but I’m too old to go and see them. I’ve written to their fan club, though, which my granddaughters think is hilarious.”
Even in Doreen’s sorrow she was heartened by the MacDonald Brothers visit, and able to spare £5 for our campaign.
