We’re bowled over
by their efforts
By Paul Hastie

WE WERE bowled over by the ladies of Campbeltown, who brought a baking boost to our campaign. Catherine Armour, President of the Lorne and Lowland Church Ladies Bowling Club, sent a fantastic
£100 cheque.
The 33 ladies of the club meet every week to play indoor bowls in their church hall.
It’s not just the ladies who rule the Campbeltown bowling scene, the church’s gentlemen bowlers occasionally get a look-in too. Last month they held their annual competition with the local men’s club.
It’s not a bowling battle of the sexes, but instead an opportunity for the two groups to join up for a friendly mixed-pairs tournament.
Entrance fee
There was a small entrance fee that goes towards church funds, and a chance to raise a whole lot more for charity.
Luckily the ladies’ baking is just as good as their bowling. So as balls were rolling along the carpet, the cash from the baking sales came rolling in.
Catherine said, “Each year the club president chooses a charity. It was my chance this year, and I thought it would be a great idea to help The Sunday Post’s appeal. The contest runs for three nights, and each evening we have sandwiches and baking on sale. All the ladies pitch in.”
This year’s Lorne and Lowland Church tournament was won by Neil McGuire and Cathy McGowan.
But don’t forget the other winner — our appeal.
