Irene’s tribute to her biker son David
By Robert Wight

WHENEVER Irene Hasell has any spare cash she always makes sure she gives some to charity — it’s a way of honouring the memory of her son David, who died aged
35 in a road accident last year.
David, a driver for dairy firm Robert Wiseman, was riding his Honda motorbike to work from
his home in Kintore, Aberdeenshire, at about 4.30 am on May 21.
He was travelling along a winding country road when a deer leapt directly into his path, knocking him from his bike. David suffered massive head injuries and was killed instantly.
“David started riding bikes at 17 and was very safety conscious — he never rode
too fast,” says Irene.
“This was a freak accident that could happen to any biker. There was absolutely nothing David could do. The fact he died instantly and didn’t suffer is of some comfort.
“David was well loved and his funeral was packed. Everyone had nice things
to say about him.”
Although David had no children of his own, Irene says he loved kids. That’s why she sent a postal order for
Ł13 to our Sick Children’s Appeal.
Doted
Irene (57), from Bucksburn, said, “David’s partner Linda has a daughter, Rachel. She’s nine now and David knew her from when she was six months old.
“He doted on Rachel and loved her like she was his own.
“David was great with kids and he’d be happy to support the appeal.”
Irene added, “David was a healthy loon, as we say
in Aberdeen, and was never ill.
“I’ve had a few health problems over the last
30 years and the care I’ve received in hospital has always been first-class.
“I’ve friends whose children have been ill and I know how good the care is at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital — I’m sure it’s the same at Scotland’s other children’s hospitals.” |
